Get ready for some sapphic depravity between Oscar winner Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie in the first trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller Eileen.
Eileen is based on the novel of the same name by Ottessa Moshfegh, with a script from Moshfegh and her husband Luke Goebel. The film follows a young woman named Eileen Dunlop (McKenzie) who is working at a prison when she meets the captivating and glamorous new counselor, played by Hathaway. As Eileen is drawn into Rebecca’s world, she learns that beyond the allure, there’s also danger.
The trailer shows how Rebecca immediately adds color to Eileen's life. When Eileen is working at the very gray prison, she sees a red convertible pull into the parking lot and immediately her interest is sparked. When a very beautiful (and very blonde) Anne Hathaway steps out of the car, she becomes much more interested.
Soon Rebecca is bumping into Eileen in the halls, sharing a cigarette with her (“Nasty habit, that’s why I like it,” Rebecca tells her), telling her she’s special, letting her in on secrets, and seducing the young woman.
More than just a twisted romance, the film goes further and dives into violence and murder, with Rebecca drawing Eileen into her schemes and the dark parts of her mind.
Eileen is directed by William Oldroyd and will see a limited theatrical release on December 1 before expanding to a wide release on December 8.
