Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, and Selena Gomez star in Netflix's upcoming movie-musical odyssey Emilia Pérez.
Written and directed by "renegade auteur Jacques Audiard," the upcoming film is described as "an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations. Through liberating song and dance and bold visuals, this odyssey follows the journey of four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness. The fearsome cartel leader Emilia (Gascón) enlists Rita (Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self."
Emilia Pérez has already premiered at various festivals, and Gascón even won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. It's still early days for awards season, but the trans actress is already receiving Oscar buzz for her performance in this project.
“You have an action movie that's not an action movie, a drama that's not a drama, a comedy that's not a comedy,” Gascón told Netflix Tudum. “It is such a great gift, and I'm so proud to be part of it.”
Adriana Paz and Edgar Ramírez also star in the film.
Emilia Pérez premieres November 1 in theaters and November 13 on Netflix.
