'All of Us Strangers' & 'Barbie' are dominating this year's Dorian Awards nominations
GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ+ Entertainment Critics has announced the nominations for the 15th annual Dorian Film Awards.
The group, made up of over 500 LGBTQ+ film critics and journalists, celebrates not only film, but specifically LGBTQ+ film, with categories like LGBTQ+ Film and Screenplay of the Year, as well as categories like Visually Striking Film and Campiest Flick.
The Dorian Awards also have three special prizes: the “We’re Wilde About You!” Rising Star Award, Wilde Artist Award, and GALECA LGBTQIA+ Film Trailblazer Award. This year, Ayo Edebiri, Lily Gladstone, Jacob Elordi, Charles Melton, and Dominic Sessa are battling it out for the Rising Star Award. Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Greta Gerwig, Lily Gladstone, and Todd Haynes are up for the Wilde Artist Award, and Colman Domingo, Jodie Foster, Andrew Haigh, Todd Haynes, and Andrew Scott are up for the Film Trailblazer Award.
Gladstone, Melton, Gerwig, Haynes, Domingo, Foster, Haigh, Scott are also each nominated for their acting, directing, or writing this year.
The winners, as well as the winner of the Timeless Star Award, will be announced February 26. Here are the films with multiple nominations.
All of Us Strangers - 9 nominations
All of Us Strangers got nominations in both the Film and LGBTQ+ Film of the Year categories, as well as Director, Screenplay, and LGBTQ+ Screenplay. Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, and Claire Foy were also nominated for their performances. The movie’s final nomination came in the Genre Film of the Year category.
Barbie - 7 nominations
Barbie scored a Film of the Year nomination, as well as noms for Director, Screenplay, and Supporting Film Performance for Ryan Gosling. The movie also got noms in the Visually Striking Film of the Year, Film Music, and Campiest Flick categories.
May December - 5 nominations
May December is another film that got nominations in each Film of the Year, Director, and Screenplay. Natalie Portman and Charles Melton also got nominations for their acting.
Past Lives - 5 nominations
The final film nominated for Film, Director, and Screenplay of the Year is Celine Song’s Past Lives, which also got nominations in the Non-English Language Film of the Year category and Film Performance for Greta Lee.
Anatomy of a Fall - 5 nominations
Anatomy of a Fall is up for Non-English Language Film and LGBTQ+ Non-English Language Film, as well as Screenplay and LGBTQ+ Screenplay. Sandra Hüller is also up for Film Performance of the Year.
Oppenheimer - 5 nominations
Oppenheimer is up for Director of the Year for Christopher Nolan, Film Performance for Cillian Murphy, Supporting Performance for Robert Downey Jr., Film Music, and Visually Striking Film of the Year.
Poor Things - 4 nominations
Poor Things is the fifth Film of the Year nominee. It also got noms in Film Performance for Emma Stone, Genre Film of the Year, and Visually Striking Film of the Year.
Bottoms - 3 nominations
Emma Seligman’s hilarious teen comedy Bottoms is up for LGBTQ+ Film of the Year, LGBTQ+ Screenplay of the Year, and Campiest Flick.
Rustin - 3 nominations
Netflix’s biopic Rustin is up for LGBTQ+ Film and LGBTQ Screenplay of the Year, and Colman Domingo is up for Film Performance of the Year.
Saltburn - 3 nominations
Saltburn is up for LGBTQ+ Film of the Year, Campiest Flick, and Supporting Film Performance for Rosamund Pike.
The Boy and the Heron - 3 nominations
The Boy and the Heron scored noms in Non-English Film, Animated Film, and Film Music of the Year.
Monica - 2 nominations
Trace Lysette picked up a nomination for Film Performance of the Year, and the movie was nominated for Unsung Film of the Year.
Kokomo City - 2 nominations
Kokomo City is the only documentary nominated in both the Documentary of the Year and LGBTQ+ Documentary of the Year categories.
Passages - 2 nominations
Ira Sachs’ Passages is up for LGBTQ+ Film and LGBTQ+ Screenplay of the Year.
Godzilla Minus One - 2 nominations
This movie is up for Non-English Language Film of the Year as well as Genre Film of the Year.
The Zone of Interest - 2 nominations
Zone of Interest is up for Non-English Language Film and Film Music of the Year.
Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret - 2 nominations
Rachel McAdams scored a nom for Supporting Film Performance, and the movie got nominated in the Unsung Film of the Year category.
The Color Purple - 2 nominations
Danielle Brooks was nominated for Supporting Film Performance, and the film was nominated for Film Music of the Year.
The Holdovers - 2 nominations
Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph were nominated for their performances in The Holdovers.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse - 2 nominations
This film is up for Animated Film of the Year and Visually Striking Film of the Year.
M3GAN - 2 nominations
M3GAN is up for Genre Film and Campiest Flick.
