7 of the biggest LGBTQ+ Oscar snubs of 2024
Another year, another batch of major Oscar snubs...
Searchlight Pictures/IFC Films/BTeam Pictures
Awards Season is our favorite season, and while it was a pleasure to see some of our all-time fave out LGBTQ+ actors like Colman Domingo and Jodie Foster get recognized at the recent nominations announcement for the upcoming 2024 Oscars, it pains us when other beloved queer talent and titles don't get anything but a big ole snub...
Scroll through to see all of the major snubs from this year's batch of nominations at the 96th annual Academy Awards, which airs Sunday, March 10 on ABC.
'All of Us Strangers'
2023's most haunting gay romantic drama was shut out from multiple categories it was eligible in, including getting a Best Actor nom for out actor Andrew Scott, Best Supporting Actor for Paul Mescal, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Director for out writer-director Andrew Haigh.
'Strange Way of Life'
Out writer-director Pedro Almodóvar's sexy cowboy short starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal as reunited lost lovers was shortlisted in the Best Live Action Short Film category, but it didn't end up getting that coveted nomination.
Todd Haynes, 'May December'

Though Netflix's wild comedy-drama got recognized by The Academy in the Best Original Screenplay category for writer Samy Burch, out director Todd Haynes got no love for his work helming the film in the Best Director category.
'Saltburn'
Though Emerald Fennell's latest viral directorial effort made the rounds online, it got no love when it came to 2024 Oscar nominations. We thought Barry Keoghan, who plays scheming queer main character Oliver Quick, would have at least got something!
Julian Breece & Dustin Lance Black, 'Rustin'
Though lead actor Colman Domingo got his very first Academy Award nomination for playing important Civil Rights leader Bayard Rustin, the film's out co-writers Dustin Lance Black, who previously won an Oscar for writing Milk, and Julian Breece, did not get their own nom.
'The Color Purple'
A crowd and critic favorite this Awards Season, the new musical adaptation of The Color Purple was also surprisingly shut out of many Oscar categories. This new musical version of the film restored the lesbian romance from the 1982 novel of the same name that the 1985 version of the movie left out.
'Monica'
One of the most upsetting snubs, not just at the Oscars, but this ENTIRE awards season, was definitely Monica, a drama that followed a trans woman (played by Trace Lysette) who reconnects with her dying mother (Patricia Clarkson) years after she was disowned for being trans. Lysette's performance was BREATHTAKING and deserved SOMETHING.
