Oscars 2024: Here are all the LGBTQ+ nominees we're rooting for
These are the LGBTQ+ nominees for the 2024 Oscars!
Atlantic Records; Netflix
The nominations for the 96th annual Academy Award are finally here!
The 96th Academy Awards ceremony is set to take place on March 10 in Los Angeles. The awards show, airing on ABC, will once again be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
It’s been a great year in cinema for LGBTQ+ actors, directors, writers, films, and characters, which gave us hope that the 2024 Oscars could potentially be the most queer- and trans-inclusive ceremony ever. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Oscars nominations announcement was live-streamed and cohosted by Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid.
Even though many of our favorite contenders were unfortunately snubbed and didn’t receive nominations, we’re still getting some fierce representation at this year’s Academy Awards!
Scroll through to see the LGBTQ+ nominees for the 96th Academy Awards — which is scheduled to air on Sunday, March 10, 2024 on ABC.
‘Maestro’
Netflix
Bradley Cooper directed and starred in the lead role of Maestro, a biopic about bisexual conductor Leonard Bernstein. The film received seven nominations at the 2024 Oscars — Best Picture, Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Carey Mulligan), Original Screenplay (Bradley Cooper and Josh Singer), Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Sound.
‘Nyad’

Nyad received two nominations for the 2024 Oscars: Best Actress (Annette Bening as Diana Nyad) and Best Supporting Actress (Jodie Foster as Bonnie Stoll). Both of those characters are queer, as is Foster. This is Bening’s fifth Oscar nomination, with zero wins. Foster has now also been nominated for five Oscars, having won two of them in the past.
‘Rustin’

Colman Domingo’s performance as Bayard Rustin in the Rustin biopic has been recognized with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. This is Domingo’s first-ever Oscar nomination, and the only Oscar nomination received by the Netflix film.
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’
Apple Original Films
Lily Gladstone, who uses she/they pronouns, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for their portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon. This is Gladstone’s first-ever Oscar nomination. Altogether, this new film by Martin Scorsese received 10 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Brown, who played a gay character in the film. Moreover, queer composer Laura Karpman was nominated for Best Original Score for her work in American Fiction. The movie was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, among others.
