The first trailer for the upcoming film Lola just dropped and now we can't wait to see it!

The first trailer for actor Nicola Peltz Beckham’s directorial debut, Lola, just dropped, and it looks like it’s going to be funny, beautiful, and achingly sad.

Peltz Beckham — best known for her roles in 2010’s The Last Airbender, Bates Motel, and 2020’s Holiday — doesn’t just direct; she also stars as nineteen-year-old Lola James, who is “desperately working to save enough money to get her little brother, Arlo, out of their toxic home dominated by their mother, Mona. All Lola wants is for Arlo to have a chance at the life she never had, nor will. One tragic night her whole world gets uprooted, and from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same,” according to the official synopsis.

The film also stars Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen as Mona, Raven Goodwin as Babina, and Luke David Blumm as Arlo, alongside Trevor Long, Sunil Narkar, Stephen Graybill, and Richie Merritt.

Lola debuts in theaters and on VOD on February 9.

1. The aesthetics

This may be Peltz Beckham's freshman film, but you'd never know it by looking at this trailer. The film looks fantastic, from the intimate closeups to the washes of pink to the gritty-looking town.

2. Virginia Madsen

We would watch Oscar-nominated actress Virginia Madsen in anything, but here she is absolutely chewing the scenery as a toxic mother. We may hate her by the end of the movie, but damn is she good!

3. Friends forever

Courtesy of Vertical

Even from the short trailer, you can see the friendship between Lola and her co-worker Babina. They stand up for each other, support each other, and have a blast together.

4. Makeover time!

A beautiful scene shows Lola putting makeup on her little brother, Arlo. He looks so happy until their awful mother catches them and calls him a homophobic slur.

5. Sometimes you just need a good cry

Watching Lola struggle is hard enough, but the scene where Madsen’s character cuts off her son’s hair is devastating. If you need a good cry, we have a feeling this is the movie for you.

6. And that adorable dog!

It’s a simple thing, but that is the cutest giant dog we’ve ever seen!
