Something's Queer in here.
Luca Guadagnino has been giving the gays everything they want lately — and the director is about to drop another film that's bound to become an instant classic.
Daniel Craig, best known for playing 007 himself in recent James Bond movies, and Drew Starkey, one of the biggest heartthrobs from the Netflix series Outer Banks, are both cast as the lead actors in Guadagnino's upcoming gay film, appropriately titled Queer.
The film is based on a novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs published in 1985. The story centers around American expat William Lee (played by Craig) visiting Mexico City in the 1940s and becoming enamored by Eugene Allerton (played by Starkey).
The world premiere of Queer will take place at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. In August 2024, Queer was also announced as part of the lineup for the 62nd New York Film Festival. As a director, Guadagnino has been on a string of back-to-back critically-acclaimed films like Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All, and Challengers.
A more cryptic image of Queer had already been shared across social media (as seen below). However, this new first-look image absolutely gives us a better view of Craig in the film.
Besides playing James Bond in the 007 franchise, 56-year-old Craig is also known for playing the gay detective Benoit Blanc in the Knives Out series of movies. Starkey made a splash after starring in 2018's Love, Simon and The Hate U Give, which ultimately led to his role as Rafe Cameron on Outer Banks.
The cast of Queer also includes actors such as Henry Zaga, Jason Schwartzman, Drew Droege, Lesley Manville, Ariel Schulman, and Colin Bates, to name a few.
Queer is scheduled to premiere on September 3 at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.
