The film is a part of the DC Comics universe.

The second collaboration planned between Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino is no longer happening.

Craig is no longer attached to star as the title role in Guadagnino's upcoming Sgt. Rock film for DC Studios, per The Hollywood Reporter.

According to THR, there are several reasons Craig may have departed the project, ranging from scheduling conflicts to the poor performance of Queer, which was directed by Guadagnino and starred Craig, at the box office and during awards season.

Released in 2024, Queer featured Craig as William Lee, a washed up and boozed out expat living in Mexico City in the 1950s. There, he met a young man played by Drew Starkey, and together they went on an ayahuasca-fueled trip through South America.

While the film was well-received by critics, and Craig earned a Golden Globe nomination, it failed to earn any Oscar nominations.

Sgt. Rock is a World War II soldier who leads the Easy Company, and has existed in DC Comics for decades. The film, which has a script from Guadagnino's Queer and Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes would be a major departure for the director, who has never worked with a major IP before.

DC Studios is reportedly already seeking out other stars, with one name being at the top of the list: Jeremy Allen White, star of The Bear.
