The name's Evans — Luke Evans.
The most recent James Bond film released in theaters, 2021's No Time to Die, was the last installment featuring Daniel Crag in the role of 007. Since then, critics have been discussing how a character like Bond can fit into this modern world, and which potential changes could help revive this franchise.
Evans has been one of the top contenders in lists of potential actors who could play the next version of James Bond. And if the goal is to modernize the franchise and make it more inclusive without alienating long-time stans of these movies, Evans feels like the perfect choice as an out gay actor who's starred in several action films and was incredibly well-received by audiences.
In his new cover story for the September/October print issue of Out, Evans addressed the ongoing rumors that he'd be a great 007.
"I was like, 'Wow, this is like crazy that I'm on this list,'" the actor told Out. "I took stock that day and I thought, 'People could see me as that role even being a gay man,' which I thought was great, and it means that we are progressing."
If the role was offered today, Evans makes it clear that he "wouldn’t turn it down," adding:
"I've still got some years left in me to do stunts and shoot a gun and wear a tuxedo. I do look quite good in a tuxedo, even if I do say it myself."
Recent reports have also been listing younger stars like Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers, Bridgerton, Wicked) to take over the Bond brand — and that would also be fabulous! At this point in time, though, it does seem like Evans would be more well-positioned for the role and would bring a totally fresh energy to such as iconic character.
In terms of age, Daniel Craig was 38 when he starred in 2006's Casino Royale; whereas Pierce Brosnan was 42 in his 007 debut, GoldenEye. Evans is currently 45, which makes perfect sense for a 007. Oh, and let's not forget how handsome, charming, and fit Evans is — all deemed essential factors for actors playing this role.
Evans is also unapologetically gay, having starred in films like Good Grief and Our Son very recently… but straight audiences never had any issues seeing the out gay actor in action-packed films such as Clash of the Titans, the trilogy of The Hobbit installments, and even a few Fast & Furious movies.
Listen up, Hollywood execs! We want Luke Evans in our James Bond movies!! (Please, and thank you.)
