There’s still plenty of room for more LGBTQ+ representation in the Disney kingdom.

Gotta stan Margaret Cho.

The comedian, writer, and actress has reasserted her legendary status with her return as Ms. Chen in Disney’s Prom Pact, which represents one of the first out LGBTQ+ characters in a full-fledged Disney movie.

Cho said during an interview with Entertainment Times of India:

“I love a coming-of-age story, especially one that really puts an Asian-American woman at the center of it, you know? And this is a very important step in realizing diversity. I play a queer character in the film who’s somebody that the kids look up to, which I think is really amazing.”

When asked what it was like to represent one of the first completely out queer characters in a Disney film, she said, “I love that. I think it’s very real and something that is important to recognize. We are everywhere in society. So this is just another example of that where I think we belong.”

Even though representation is growing, there’s always room for more. When asked if she thought it was time for a Disney film to feature an LGBTQ+ lead, Cho replied: “Absolutely yes!”

She added, “I would love to see them everywhere. I would love to see trans characters and different types of people in roles like Disney Princess, Disney Prince, and Disney everything. I think this would be really important and it’s a move toward the future. It’s a move toward who we are. I think it’s really admirable and exciting.”

Here’s to hoping Disney (finally) takes note.
