The new docu-series follows the case of a gay man who was killed in a hate crime in the '80s.

Never Let Him Go, the groundbreaking new true-crime documentary about a gay man who was killed in a hate crime, premieres on Hulu on September 6 — and Out got an exclusive first look at the trailer.

This four-part docu-series. from ABC News Studios and Show of Force, follows Steve Johnson’s decades-long journey to find out what happened to his brother Scott, whose body was found at the base of a cliff in Australia in 1988.

The “murky circumstances surrounding” the death of the gay American mathematician “sparked a public reckoning in Australia, shedding new light on a pattern of violence against the LGBTQ+ community,” according to the series' official description.

Likely because he was a gay man, Scott’s death was originally ruled a suicide, but his brother Steve never gave up trying to find answers. Never Let Him Go features never-before-seen evidence from the investigation, personal home videos, and rare archival footage, as well as interviews with Steve and his family, and first-ever interviews with law enforcement officials who worked on the case in the ‘80s in Sydney.

And in case you were wondering if this would be one of those true-crime documentaries where you still don’t know who the killer is when the credits roll, 35 years after Scott’s death the filmmakers were able to capture the killer confessing and being sentenced. You’ll also get to see an exclusive interview with the killer’s ex-wife, who is finally breaking her silence for the first time after tipping off the police.

In the end, Steve must decide if getting justice for his brother is enough or if he still has work to do to try and solve the dozens of similar cases of dead gay men in Australia.
