Haircare royalty brand göt2b® is set to present the Marti Cummings documentary, Queen of New York, as it makes its world premiere at NewFest.

Last night was the world premiere of the Marti Cummings documentary, Queen of New York, at New York’s largest LGBTQ+ film festival, NewFest. And they just got a little more volume added to their ‘do with the announcement that haircare royalty brand göt2b® has partnered with the documentary as a financier-producer.

Queen of New York follows television personality, activist, and popular drag queer Marti Cummings’ (they/them) groundbreaking run for New York City’s first nonbinary City Council member. Cummings was a first-time candidate in one of NYC’s most competitive districts, and their history-making campaign in 2021 united LGBTQ+ activists and supporters throughout the city and beyond. The directorial feature debut from Emmy-nominated filmmaker and journalist Emma Fidel also features some of Cummings’ biggest supporters, including Billy Porter (who narrates), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, actress Ilana Glazer, and almost two dozen of NYC’s top drag queens. Check out the trailer below!

Produced by Fidel, Robert Profusek, Daniel Ming, and Gigi Dement, and executive produced by Donna Gruneich, Queen of New York is the New York Centerpiece film of NewFest. The doc has also been acquired by development and production studio TRAVERSE32.

And it seemed like the partnership was a perfect match between göt2b® and Queen of New York. The haircare brand has always fostered individuality without limits, something that Cummings has clearly inspired with supporters. Director of Marketing for göt2b®, Melinda Johnson, echoes that sentiment when remarking on their pride in supporting the documentary.

“göt2b® is a brand which is deeply committed to amplifying queer voices and providing platforms for emboldening unapologetic self-expression,” said Johnson. “Over the years, we have proudly partnered with many drag icons, organizations and creators and we are now thrilled to join forces with Queen of New York and help bring Marti’s iconic story to the world. The path they’ve blazed for LGBTQIA+ people, the drag community, and particularly their nonbinary peers who have never seen themselves publicly represented is truly monumental.”

As a financier-producer of the documentary, göt2b® will provide film financing and marketing along with promotional support throughout the 2024 awards season. And director Emma Fidel is overjoyed with the support.

"Queen of New York celebrates the power of drag, the critical importance of local elections, and the beauty of queer joy," Fidel said. "We are so thrilled to have göt2b® as a dedicated partner in our mission to uplift and inspire audiences."
