"When you’re about to have a sex scene with Daniel Craig, you’re like, 'Oh, dude, I can’t be looking off,'" said the musician about the upcoming film Queer.

Drew Starkey and Omar Apollo, two stars of Luca Guadagnino's upcoming A24 film Queer, had a casual conversation for Interview Magazine where Apollo opened up about the prep for his sex scene with Daniel Craig.

The movie is an adaptation of the William S. Burroughs novel of the same name about a former heroin addict who turns to sex as he travels through Mexico in the 1950s. Apollo revealed that he filmed his part while he was on tour with SZA, which took place in the spring and summer of 2023, and that he celebrated his May 20th birthday with the cast.

Starkey, who screened the film just before their FaceTime call, complimented Apollo about his performance. "You were amazing in it," he said. "You were like this old-fashioned movie star. I screamed when you came on screen."

Later in the interview, Apollo revealed that he "had to get on the soup diet" ahead of filming. "Luca did not tell me to lose weight," he clarified. "But when you’re about to have a sex scene with Daniel Craig, you’re like, 'Oh, dude, I can’t be looking off.'"

So there you have it! We're getting a Craig/Apollo sex scene!

Apollo, who is 6'5", went on to say that he was 200 pounds before filming and got down to 181. He also shared a moment he had with Craig in a bar.

"I don’t know if I could say this, but we were drinking gin and tonics before our scene. It was a vibe. I had a really cool experience with him. He definitely has this presence to him that is felt from far away. I remember asking him, 'How do you feel when the camera’s on?' And he said, 'To be honest, every time the camera’s on me, I’m terrified.' I thought that was beautiful. You have to be vulnerable. You have to be open to these emotions. It was such an honest answer."

Queer just premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and is set to hit US theaters later this year.
