Get ready for some of the best short and feature films from and about queer and trans BIPOC at this year’s 20th Anniversary Outfest Fusion QTBIPOC Film Festival!
This year’s Outfest Fusion slate features 23 world premieres, 5 U.S. premieres, 4 international premieres, and 3 North American premieres. The festival also features works from the U.S. and 16 other countries around the globe.
Some of the films being highlighted at this year’s festival include the documentary Little Richard: I Am Everything from Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning producer and director Lisa Cortés, and Kristy Lovell and Zackary Drucker’s loving portrait of the New York City Meatpacking District and the trans women of color who lived and worked there The Stroll.
It will also feature the North American premiere of the documentary Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your Turn, about Philadelphia politician Malcolm Kenyatta’s unprecedented bid for the U.S. Senate in 2022, and the U.S. premiere of Soft, Joseph Amenta’s coming-of-age feature debut.
“We are at a moment where our industry is ready to have an honest dialogue about inclusion, investment and representation of people of color and yet our entire LGBTQ+ population is facing a rise in hate that targets us,” Damien Navarro, Outfest’s Executive Director, said in a release. “On the 20th Anniversary of Outfest Fusion, we are not only celebrating our stories but continuing our mission of championing themes of intersectionality and diversity in the face of this new wave of attacks on our community.”
This year’s Fusion Achievement Award, which recognizes someone who has made a significant contribution to LGBTQ+ visibility in stories, arts, and media, is going to The Inspection writer and director Elegance Bratton.

The Fusion Impact Award is going to filmmaker and Indigenous activist Bird Runningwater. Runningwater is being honored for his commitment to uplifting the work of LGBTQ+ Indigenous filmmakers as a producer, consultant, and leader of the Sundance Institute’s Native Lab.
