2024 is Luca Guadagnino's year!
The talented Italian director already released the brilliant tennis threesome film Challengers back in April, and now, the first trailer for his next film, Queer is here!
The trailer introduces us to Daniel Craig's character William Lee and the world he lives in. Lee is an aging gay expat living in Mexico City in the 1950s, bouncing between bars, hookups, and back alleys, when he meets the young and enticing Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), who was discharged from the navy.
"It was a wise old queen who taught me that I had a duty to live, you know, to conquer hate with knowledge and sincerity and love," Lee says in a voiceover.
At first, it seems like Lee is far more interested in Allerton than Allerton is in Lee, but as the trailer continues, their relationship and connection seem to get a lot deeper.
"What do you got to lose?" Lee asks him.
"Independence," he replies.
It's full of beautifully lush sensual images of the two men as they make love, touch, and grow closer.
There are also some allegorical and fantastical parts of the trailer, including images of a centipede, a crying snake, Lee flying through space, miniatures, and a piece of paper moving on its own.
What is this movie!? Whatever it is, we can't wait to see it!
Queer is based on the novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs and also stars Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Henry Zaga, Drew Droege, Ariel Schulman, and Omar Apollo.
Queer is being released in limited theaters on November 27. Watch the trailer below!
