The movie adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue will apparently be faithful to the novel when it comes to its sex scenes.

Love, sex, and politics, but make it gay!

The Red, White & Royal Blue novel tells the story of Alex, the first son of the United States, and Henry, a British prince, falling in love. At first, they’re “frenemies” who don’t necessarily enjoy being around each other. As the story progresses, though, things get royally steamy between the two characters.

On Monday, May 8, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) gave Red, White & Royal Blue an R-rating, noting that the movie features “language, some sexual content, and partial nudity.” This is great news for fans who hoped that the sex scenes from the book wouldn’t be cut or significantly sanitized for the sake of the film getting a wider MPAA theatrical rating.

Don’t get us wrong: Red, White & Royal Blue isn’t anything like Fifty Shades of Grey. With that said, there are a few sex scenes in the novel that could be compromised if the movie aimed for a PG-13 rating.

The Red, White & Royal Blue movie has cast Taylor Zakhar Perez (HBO’s The Minx) to play Alex and Nicholas Galitzine (Amazon Prime Video’s Cinderella) to play Henry. This cast also includes Uma Thurman as Ellen Claremont (the in-universe President of the United States).

During the production process of this movie, Perez and Galitzine shared several cheeky social media posts as they got to know each other better and developed some chemistry to play lovers in the film. Now, we’re about to find out what the actors will bring to these characters on the big screen.

Bring on the royal nudity!

Red, White & Royal Blue premieres August 11 on Amazon Prime Video.
