Remember when Twink King Troye Sivan played Wolverine?
Remember when Twink King Troye Sivan played Wolverine?
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, largely on the star power of Ryan Reynolds (who plays Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (who plays Wolverine).
Reynolds first appeared as (a very different version of) Deadpool in the prequel film X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 before playing the version we now know in the character's two solo films in 2016 and 2018.
But Jackman as Wolverine goes back even farther than that. He's been playing the iconic X-Men character since the first X-Men movie in 2000, meaning that when he appears in Deadpool & Wolverine, he'll have the record for longest career as a live-action Marvel character.
While most superheroes have been played by multiple actors throughout reboots, sequels, prequels, and alternate universes, Jackman has been Wolverine in every single live action film featuring the character.
Jackman being the only live action Wolverine is being used as a big selling point for the film, with Reynolds even saying "There's only been one Wolverine, the reason is no one can do it except Hugh Jackman."
But that's not exactly true, since another person has played Wolverine before: the reigning king of the twinks, Troye Sivan!
In 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the same movie that introduced Reynolds as Deadpool, a 13-year old Sivan played young James Howlett, a Canadian boy living in 1845 who would grow up to be the famous mutant.
Sivan's scenes happen at the beginning of the movie, when he sees his father being killed by the family's groundskeeper. The incident causes his mutation to kickstart, making boney claws appear from his hands.
He uses the claws to kill the groundskeeper, who in his dying words, reveals he is James' real father, giving him the identity crisis that has come to help define the character.
In an age of constant rebooting and recasting, no other actors have ever played the character.
While Batman has been played by everyone from Adam West to Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck, and Spider-Man has been played by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland, Sivan and Jackman are the only two actors to play a live-action Wolverine.
Since the new Deadpool & Wolverine has a plot that revolves around different timelines and features X-Men villains from many different movies, it would only make sense for Marvel to bring back Sivan to play a young Wolverine again!
The studio is truly missing out on a perfect opportunity if it doesn't include Sivan's version of the character. I can't think of any good reasons to not feature at least a cameo by him. Who wouldn't want to see a twink Wolverine in the new movie?
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters July 26.
