5 Young Queer Actors Who Could Slay As Bella in the New 'Twilight' Series
These queer actors should play Bella Swan in the new 'Twilight' show!
The parade of remakes and reboots never ends, and Stephanie Meyer’s best-selling Twilight series is up next via Lionsgate Television.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new adaptation of the book series about a love triangle between a human girl named Bella, a vampire named Edward, and a werewolf named Jacob, is in its early phases and does not yet have a network/streamer or writer as of yet.
One thing the original Twilight movies were famous for was the explosion of young star Kristen Stewart. She had been in movies before like Panic Room, Zathura, and Into the Wild, but she really became the Oscar-nominated global star she is today because of her role as Bella in Twilight.
Stewart didn’t come out as queer until after she had ended her run as Bella, but we think it’s time for the new Bella to be queer from the get-go. Here are five terrific young actors who we think could fill the venerable Kristen Stewart’s shoes in the role!
Amandla Stenberg
Amandla Stenberg burst onto the Hollywood scene playing Rue in The Hunger Games movie, so returning to a popular YA book franchise would be a natural for her! She’s brought gravity to roles in dramas like The Hate U Give and Dear Evan Hansen, and we’d love to see her get a huge project like this!
Bella Ramsey
Ramsey is one of our favorite picks for this. The young actor stunned as Ellie in HBO’s The Last of Us, and they’ve even got the same first name as the character! Ramsey is hands down one of the best young actors working, and if the new Twilight franchise wants someone with as much star power as Stewart had, Ramsey is the way to go.
Hunter Schafer
Honestly, Hunter Schafer as Bella Swan would be a SLAY. We love, love, love her as Jules in Euphoria, and we’d love to see her in a role where she gets to be a little happier. Out of all the actors on our list, she’s the one who most physically resembles Stewart, so she’s a natural fit for Bella.
Jasmin Savoy Brown
Savoy Brown is one of our favorite young actors right now, and she’s great at running through the woods! With Yellowjackets and the last two Scream movies, she's definitely shown she can lead an action or horror franchise. We also love the tender side of Jasmin we’ve seen in her scenes as Taissa with her girlfriend Van in Yellowjackets, and think she’d be amazing as a romantic lead.
Liv Hewson
Speaking of Yellowjackets, nonbinary actor Liv Hewson who plays young Van in the show would also make a terrific Bella. They’re also used to filming in the woods (just like they have in the Pacific Northwest, where Twilight takes place), and know how to handle the supernatural, so Bella Swan seems a perfect fit.
