Hardwicke discussed the 15th anniversary of the movie on a podcast recently.

Is it time for a Twilight reboot?

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been considering the possibility as the iconic supernatural romance film marked its 15th anniversary this year.

Hardwicke was on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast to do a “watch-along” of the movie when Horowitz asked if she had any ideas for who could play the star-crossed lovers Edward the vampire and Bella the human if there was to be a reboot.

“Is Jacob Elordi Edward Cullen today?” Horowitz asked her. “Is Jenna Ortega…”

Hardwicke was quick to respond: “Oh yeah, that would be perfect.”

After asking if Horowitz had seen Elordi’s newest film, Saltburn, she heaped praises on him. “I mean, he’s amazing,” she said. “He probably would be Edward today. Exactly.”

About who should play Bella, Hardwicke offered, “I mean, of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega,” who she said was “amazing.”

However, if Hardwicke were to be involved in a reboot, she wouldn’t want to go the straightforward route.

“For me, it would be fun to do Twilight in outer space,” she said. “I would be ecstatic to do that, something totally different.”

Elordi is currently starring in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, where he plays a wealthy and privileged college student who becomes the object of obsession of a fellow student played by Barry Keoghan.

Ortega is one of Hollywood’s hottest stars, starring in an upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, the Wednesday series, and until recently, the Scream series.

Ortega, who played Tara Carpenter, the younger sister of Melissa Barrera’s Sam Carpenter, had been one of the main leads of Scream 6 and 7, the two most successful films in the franchise to date. However, she recently announced she is leaving the series, supposedly over scheduling conflicts with Wednesday.

We are still not entirely sure about a Twilight reboot, but the mention of Elordi and Ortega might get some fans hyped up!
