15 Unforgettable Lesbian & Sapphic Kisses From TV & Movies
These kisses stuck with us forever!
Seeing a lesbian kiss on TV or in a movie can change your life. For people who grow up without real-life gay role models, TV and movie romances might be the first time you see two women kissing, and that can open up a whole new world to you.
These kisses are some of the best examples of that. These kisses not only pushed queer representation forward, but have been the spark of a new awakening for many a girl. With that in mind, here are some of our favorite lesbian and sapphic kissing scenes that we’ll never get tired of watching!
1. Greta and Carson, "A League of Their Own"
Not only sets the tone of the queerness of the show, but also lets us know exactly who Greta is: a total lesbian dreamboat. Greta guides Carson to a back room where they’re all alone so that she can kiss her, and when she does, it changes Carson’s life. As soon as Carson passionately kisses back, Greta smiles and says “I thought so.”
2. Ronit and Esti, "Disobedience"
These two former childhood friends who come from a traditional Jewish community are desperate for each other, and their kisses certainly show it. Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams give it their all in some of the sexiest kissing in a movie ever. This is the movie that introduced spitting in your partner’s mouth to wider America!
3. Brittany and Santana, "Glee"
We’d been waiting so long for these two to kiss! While the two started talking about having sex back in season one of the show, they didn’t get to kiss on the lips until season 3, episode 13 when they finally got to kiss in time for Valentine’s Day!
4. Adora and Catra, "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power"
This kiss changed cartoons forever. The main characters of the show (one of whom is the title character and an important legacy character from the ’80s) kiss and their kiss saves the entire universe. The entire show had been building to this kiss, and you can’t have She-ra without Catra and Adora’s kiss here. “Don't you get it? I love you and I always have, so just this once, stay,” Catra asks. And Adora does.
5. Corky and Violet, "Bound"
This erotic thriller directed by the Wachowskis is hot from start to finish, but in this scene, Violet, a woman kept by a member of the mob, follows Corky, the butch from next door, out to her car after they were almost caught having sex. While the sound of both of their leather creaks, the two passionately and desperately make out in Violet’s truck.
6. Bette and Tina, "The L Word"
Bette and Tina are the most iconic couple in The L Word, and possibly in all of lesbian TV, and this is where it all started. Tina had left her earring at Bette’s art gallery, and went back to get it, and the rest is L Word history!
7. Jennifer and Needy, "Jennifer's Body"
We love Jennifer’s Body! After Jennifer has been possessed by an evil entity, she shows up at her best friend Needy’s house in her bed. “We always share your bed when we have slumber parties,” she tells a worried and confused Needy. “I’m not gonna bite you.” Soon the two are making out like it's nobody’s business.
8. Megan and Graham, "But I'm a Cheerleader"
Megan and Graham are two girls at a gay conversion camp, and Megan’s never been with a woman before. But one night when they sneak away to a gay bar, tensions rise until the two start fighting, and until the fighting starts turning into kissing.
9. Yorkie and Kelly, "Black Mirror: San Junipero"
Yorkie and Kelly are two women who meet in a bar in this sci-fi story who sense an immediate connection. Yorkie follows Kelly into the bathroom where she tells her, “I don’t know how to do this… just help me, can you just make this easy for me,” asking Kelly to take control. After a short drive, the two go back to her house where they finally share a satisfying first kiss.
10. Emily and Sue, "Dickinson"
Dickinson didn’t pull any punches, and right off the bat in episode one we got an epic kiss between Emily and Sue. After Sue’s sister dies, Emily says, “Well, I guess since you’re marrying Austin, I’ll be your sister now. Promise me something Sue. Okay, promise me two things. One: That you won’t move away to Michigan, and two: that you’ll always love me more than him.” Sue shows her answer as rain starts pouring down all around them.
11. Clarke and Lexa, 'The 100'
In the CW science fiction show The 100, Clarke, the leader of the survivors of a ship that crashed to post-apocalyptic earth, and Lexa, the leader of a group of Earth humans called Trikru were intense rivals when they first met, but that intensity soon turned into intense sexual chemistry!
This scene from the second season starts with Clarke pointing out Lexa's flaws as a leader, as the two get closer and closer together. Finally, Lexa agrees to trust Clarke, and as Clarke says, "Maybe life should be about more than just surviving, don't we deserve better than that?" Lexa's eyes follow Clarke's lips until she presses her own lips to her one-time enemy's.
12. Waverly and Nicole, 'Wynonna Earp'
WayHaught is one of the most popular lesbian ships from the past decade, and this passionate first kiss shows why! In season 1, episode 9, after Waverly Earp has been trying to figure out her feelings for the hot new cop, Officer Nicole Haught, she finally shows up to her office.
After closing all the shutters in the windows, Waverly kisses Nicole hard, straddling her on the couch. "Point is, I've always wanted to do things that scared me, but it's not so easy to be brazen when the thing that you want, that scares you to death, is sitting right in front of you," she says. "I don't want to be friends. When I think about what I want to do most in the world, it's you."
"Maybe I should just stop talking," Waverly says.
"See, you're getting better at this already," Nicole says, pulling her closer.
"Maybe you should stop talking too?"
"Maybe you should make me."
13. Josie and Isabel, 'Bottoms'
The premise of Bottoms is that two high school losers, Josie (Ayo Edebiri) and PJ (Rachel Sennott) who start a fight club in order to impress the "straight" cheerleaders they have crushes on. While PJ's crush doesn't work out, things certainly go well for Josie, who gets the girl in the end!
In this adorable and sexy scene, Josie and Isabel (Havana Rose Liu) are sitting in Josie's room on her bed when Isabel says, "Josie," and goes in for a kiss. It's satisfying and hot, and everything we want from a lesbian kiss. Oh, and of course, things don't stop there, with the two getting undressed and going down onto the bed as the camera cuts away.
14. Dani & Gigi, 'The L Word Generation Q'
Dani and Gigi were two of the hottest women in L Word history, and although they didn't end up together, they were hot, hot, hot while they lasted!
This steamy kiss from season 2, episode 7 of the show takes place after the two have been fighting.
"What do you want, huh?" Dani asks. "Is this real? Are you real?"
Gigi kisses her once, but then it starts raining. The two pause for a second, then continue to make out, with Gigi saying "I'm in" and "It's real. It's very real." We don't know what's wetter, the rain or us!
15. Marianne and Héloïse, 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire'
In this masterpiece of period storytelling, Marianne (Noémie Merlant) is an artist commisioned to paint the portrait of a young noblewoman named Héloïse (Adèle Haenel). The two go on daily walks along the coast so that Marianne can better know her subject, but eventually, they grow closer than they ever expected.
One day out on a walk, Marianne follows Héloïse into a cave on the shore, and there, hidden away from the world, they're able to share a kiss.
