Wicked boycott: One Million Moms says film pushes 'LGBTQ+ agenda'

"Instead of an uplifting Broadway musical about friendship and family," the One Million Moms organization states, it's "a dark movie that also pushes wokeness."

One million moms are not happy with Wicked.

Or to be more accurate, about 12,000 moms are angry if you believe the number of people who have signed conservative group One Million Moms' latest petition, which is asking parents to pledge to not see the new movieWicked due to it "pushing the LGBTQ agenda on families, particularly children."

"Of course, the musical contains a tremendous amount of witchcraft and sorcery, and that content prompts most parents to avoid taking their children to see Wicked," the petition states. "But the film also shows not-so-discrete crossdressing and men crushing on men, which parents may not expect."

It goes on to say that "instead of an uplifting Broadway musical about friendship and family," Wicked is "a dark movie that also pushes wokeness."

"Four of the film’s main characters are openly queer or gay in real life, or at the minimum, these actors have spoken about their queer experiences. As such, the queer representation and visibility in Wicked: Part One were important to them," it continues.

Actually, five of the film's main actors are queer. Namely, Cynthia Erivo (who plays Elphaba), Jonathan Bailey (who plays Fiyero), Bowen Yang (who plays Pfannee), Bronwyn James (who plays ShenShen), and Marissa Bode (who plays Nessarose) all identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

This, according to One Million Moms is "a nod to inclusivity, along with a blatant attempt by Universal to normalize same-sex crushes."

One Million Moms is a right-wing group created by the American Family Association, which is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Wicked has broken several box office records for musicals and so far has earned over $320 million in the American box office, as reported by Deadline. While One Million Moms isn't holding space for it, many real life families are.

While 12,393 "signers" have signed the petition as of this writing, we doubt that they are all real mothers.

Wicked: Part One is in theaters.
