12 Glinda/Elphaba moments from the 'Wicked' trailer that have shippers shoutingUniversal PicturesThe new, full trailer for this fall's upcoming blockbuster movie-musical Wicked has finally been released, and with it, the Glinda/Elphaba ship has officially set sail!
Fans of the book and musical have shipped the two stars of the story, who later become rival witches, for decades, and thanks to the new trailer, that's not going to stop any time soon.
Wicked tells the story of two young witches Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) who meet at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. At first, they clash, but soon forge an unlikely friendship. While Glinda wants nothing more than to be popular and beloved, Elphaba will stay true to herself despite what anyone says.
Of course, we know that Glinda eventually becomes Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba becomes her enemy, the Wicked Witch of the West, but what was their relationship like before their split?
According to this new trailer, it was filled with homoerotic flirting, fighting, and glances...
Here are 11 of the gayest moments from the new Wicked trailer!
1. First meeting
Universal Pictures
In the trailer, we're treated to Elphaba and Glinda's first ever meeting — their meet-cute, if you will.
"You're green!" Glinda exclaims.
"I am," Elphaba smiles back.
2. "And they were roommates..."
Universal Pictures
Next, Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), the headmistress of Shiz University, tells that the two that they will be sharing a dorm!
3. Play fighting
Universal Pictures
Is there anything that has more sexual tension that play-fighting?
4. Roommate pranks
Universal Pictures
Here we get to see some of Elphaba's lighter side, pranking her too-perfect roommate. We love an odd couple!
5. "Popular"
Universal Pictures
The song "Popular" is one of the gayest things about Wicked. What could be more gay than giving your female bestie a makeover?
6. "I don't hate anyone that much."
Universal Pictures
Here, we see how Elphaba got her iconic black witch hat, and we learn it started out as a prank from Glinda. As Glinda pulls out the hat, she says, "It's my grannys. I'd give it away, but I don't hate anyone that much." Cue Elphaba.
"You should join us tonight," Glinda tells her roommate. "And don't tell me you have nothing to wear, because you could wear this."
7. Really seeing each other for the first time
Universal Pictures
But when Glinda finally does see Elphaba in the hat, it's like she's seeing her for the first time! This is true understanding and love!
8. Embracing each other
Universal Pictures
"She doesn't give a twig what anything thinks," Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) says to Glinda about Elphaba.
"Of course she does. She just pretends not to," she replies.
Overcome by her emotions, Glinda runs up to Elphaba and embraces her.
9. "Come with me."
Universal Pictures
When Elphaba is invited to meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, at first she goes alone. But as her train starts to depart, she shouts to her best friend, "Come with me. To meet the Wizard!"
"I couldn't possibly! This is your moment!" Glinda replies, before hopping on the train. "I'm coming."
10. Meeting the Wizard together
Universal Pictures
From there, the two witches walk in together to meet the imposing Oz (Jeff Goldblum).
11. Holding hands!!!
Universal Pictures
There are so many shots in this trailer of Elphaba and Glinda holding hands or arm in arm! How can you not ship these two??
We'll get to see exactly how gay their relationship gets when Wicked comes out in theaters on November 26!
