Omar Apollo's got the sauce — and yes, it's homemade.
The singer recently launched a new brand, Disha Hot, which sells a homemade hot sauce recipe that comes from Apollo's family. Along with that release, Apollo is collaborating with Taco Bell to expand the reach of the hot sauce brand.
"When Taco Bell hit me up about bringing my mother's Disha Hot recipe to their restaurants, it was an immediate yes," Apollo tells Out. "I grew up going to Taco Bell with my family and friends — it was a staple in my childhood! Hot sauce has always brought my family together, and to be able to partner with Taco Bell to add Disha Hot Hot Sauce to their iconic hot sauce roster, [it's] just unreal."
Apollo's parents crafted the hot sauce at El Super Taco — a restaurant they opened after moving to the U.S. By the time that Apollo was born, however, the restaurant had already shut down.
"I've always believed my mom's hot sauce is the best, and I'm able to keep my family's legacy alive in an incredible way through this collaboration," Apollo says.
Apollo and his mother, Mrs. Enriqueta, are seen making the sauce together in a new video. "Working in Taco Bell's Test Kitchen to capture the flavors perfected by my mom's original recipe was surreal," he explains. "It took me back to those special moments I hold dear when my family would be together preparing a delicious dinner with our favorite hot sauce."
The sauce includes roasted tomatillos, white vinegar, peppers, onions, tomatoes, lime juice, and a family-secret spice blend. Omar Apollo and Taco Bell's limited-edition "Disha Hot Discovery Box" are now available in restaurants nationwide and include three Disha Hot Hot Sauce Packets, a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, a Doritos Locos Taco, a Crunchy Taco, chips and nacho cheese sauce, as well as a medium fountain drink, for $8.99.
"The Disha Hot Discovery Box is the best way to find the perfect pairings for the Disha Hot Hot Sauce, and you'll find my favorite menu item, the Cheesy Gordita Crunch, inside that box," Apollo concludes.
Lucky Rewards Members can also grab an exclusive Taco Bell X Disha Hot liquid-infused vinyl variant of Omar’s new album God Said No on the Taco Bell app while supplies last. As of this writing, only 500 units are available.
