The highest-paid kicker in the NFL is standing by his homophobic and misogynistic remarks.

We're so tired.

Harrison Butker became the highest-paid kicker in the National Football League (NFL) after extending his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, August 5, as reported by ESPN. Two days after signing that extension, Butker asserted that he's standing by his past remarks deemed as misogynistic and homophobic.

Butker explained (via ESPN):

"I'm going to stand behind what it is I'm saying. I kind of look at the offseason as a little bit of a maybe five-month period where I can just represent me as Harrison Butker as a faithful Catholic. And then obviously when it gets to the season, I try to focus as much as I can on football and not being a distraction for the Chiefs."

The 29-year-old football player added that he's discussed those past remarks with his Chiefs teammates in the locker room. Butker explained:

"It's been a beautiful thing to see. That's what's so special about sports and so special about football. There aren't many sports where you have 50 to 100 guys with a bunch of different beliefs and we're all fighting together to win. So you have a bunch of different personalities, a bunch of different backgrounds, and we're all there together trying to understand each other and realize that, at the end of the day, we have one goal together — and that's to win football games."

We completely disagree that there's anything "beautiful" in Butker's past statement about "the deadly sins sort of Pride that has an entire month dedicated to it," while contrasting Pride Month with "the true God-centered pride that is cooperating with the holy ghost to glorify him."

The "goal" to "win football games" also seems irrelevant to Butker's past statement that women "have had the most diabolical lies told to you. Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

And yet, the NFL is now paying Butker the highest salary for any kicker in the entire league.
