"I know it sounds frivolous, but I think that we haven't uncovered how grand she is," the Wicked icon explained.

After being nominated for a Golden Globe, Wicked star Cynthia Erivo already has her next dream role in her sights.

Eviro, who played Elphaba in the hit musical film Wicked, is one of the brightest stars this awards season. So far, the actress has already been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, a Critics' Choice Award, and a SAG Award for her performance in the Jon M. Chu-directed movie.

On Dec. 4, Erivo was honored with the Spotlight Award for her collaboration with Ariana Grande (who plays Glinda in Wicked) by the National Board of Review. During the ceremony, Erivo was asked about her dream roles on the big screen.

"I really want to play Storm," Erivo said, bringing up the mutant superhero in the Marvel comic books who can control the weather. "I know it sounds frivolous, but I think that we haven't uncovered how grand she is, and all that inner turmoil she has. So I think there's a world in which we could do something like that."

Storm is one of the most famous members of the X-Men, a group of characters that has yet to be properly introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe films due to 21st Century Fox previously owning the rights to those characters in live-action productions.

When the Walt Disney Company purchased Marvel Entertainment in 2009, the House of Mouse had to deal with the bureaucracy of several popular Marvel characters being licensed to other Hollywood studios. Disney then acquired properties from Fox (via Vox), which included the rights to live-action X-Men characters in film.

Certain mutants have been introduced to the MCU, like in a post-credit scene for The Marvels that included Kelsey Grammer's version of the Beast, as well as the return of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine — as well as several other X-Men — in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Beau DeMayo — who worked as the showrunner of the X-Men '97 animated reboot but was fired from the show he ran after certain accusations of "egregious" misconduct came to light — endorsed Erivo for the role of Storm, writing in an X post:

"This is an absolute no brainer."

However, specific details regarding the official introduction of the X-Men in the MCU remain under wraps, and Erivo isn't the only big actress being considered and/or speculated to play Storm.

Janelle Monáe, for instance, has expressed that they want to play Storm in the MCU. Other fans have also pointed to Keke Palmer and Dominique Jackson as suggestions for the role.
