The LGBTQ+ film critics of GALECA have announced the nominees for the 16th annual Dorian Awards.
The Dorian Awards are given out by GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, celebrating both mainstream and LGBTQ-specific films.
This year, film studio A24 leads all studios with 25 nominations, with Amazon MGM (13), Netflix (11) and Mubi (10) coming in next.
Jane Schoenbrun's haunting trans allegory I Saw the TV Glow leads all films with nine nominations, including Film and LGBTQ Film of the Year, Director, Screenplay and LGBTQ Screenplay of the Year for Schoenbrun, Film Performance of the Year for Justice Smith, and Supporting Film Performance of the year for Brigette Lundy-Paine.
Coming in second is The Substance, with 8 nominations, including Film of the Year, Director, Screenplay, Film Performance (Demi Moore), Supporting Film Performance (Margaret Qualley), Genre Film, Visually Striking Film, and Campiest Flick.
Controversial trans musical film Emilia Pérez and Luca Guadagnino's sexy sports saga Challengers each received six nominations. Karla Sofía Gascón is the lone trans actor in the Film Performance of the Year category, where she is joined by queer actors like Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Justice Smith for I Saw the TV Glow, and Colman Domingo for Sing Sing.
Other films with multiple nominations include The Brutalist with five; Anora, Nickel Boys, and Wicked with four each; and Problemista and Queer with three each.
The nominees for Film of the Year are Anora, Challengers, I Saw the TV Glow, Nickel Boys, and The Substance, with Challengers, TV Glow, Emilia Pérez, Love Lies Bleeding, and Queer earning noms for LGBTQ Film of the Year.
Actors and filmmakers up for the We're Wilde About You Rising Star award include Jonathan Bailey, Vera Drew, Gascón, Lundy-Paine, Mikey Madison, Katey O'Brian, and Drew Starkey. Luca Guadagnino and Jane Schoenbrun are both up for the Wilde Artist and LGBTQIA+ Film Trailblazer awards, where they'll face people like Colman Domingo, Julio Torres, Cynthia Erivo, Tilda Swinton, and Coralie Fargeat. Vera Drew is also nominated for the LGBTQ+ Film Trailblazer award for The People's Joker.
The Dorian Award winners will be announced on February 13.
