Pop-punk icon Avril Lavigne brought her ongoing Greatest Hits tour to the Kia Forum in Los Angeles recently, and a time was absolutely had!
Last week's Thursday night show was opened by Royal & the Serpent and All Time Low, with Lavigne taking the stage at around 9pm. Coming in hot, she immediately started the show with bangers like "Girlfriend" and "What the Hell."
She transitioned into "Complicated," her iconic "first hit" when Lavigne was just 17. There's something magical about an entire stadium screaming a 22-year-old song, and the line "take off all your preppy clothes," absolutely feels like a hymn.
I remember thinking these songs were so rebellious as a kid, but feel... timid compared to the rockers of today. But let's get something straight: there'd be no Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo without Avril paving the way.

Lavigne went on to perform bangers like "Hot," "Losing Grip," and "My Happy Ending." When the latter came out in 2004, I used to scream the song in my room, playing it on repeat at max volume. It made my parents, who only listened to R&B and gospel music, anxious. I felt like such a rebel. "All this time you were pretending/So much for my happy ending," I yelled at the top of my lungs all these years later.
Many folks in the crowd of 17,000 dressed up as Lavigne. She pulled three of them on stage, including one guy wearing her iconic "Sk8er Boi" hair highlights, camo cargo pants, and a white tank top. After taking photos with each of them, she gifted all three stans a signed skateboard. You could see the glee on their faces from the nosebleeds.

Lavigne closed the show in a flowy white dress and black boots. The crowd was buzzing in anticipation for her to perform "I'm With You," and everyone went hysterical when the intro began. When the iconic post-bridge chorus ("yeah yeah yeah yeah") arrived, Lavigne cut the music, and the audience filled in the blanks to boom claps. "It's a damn cold night/tryna figure out this life/won't you take me by the hand/take me somewhere new/I don't know who you are/but I."
She jumped back in, belting, "I'm with you!" as the crowd screamed along.
