We can't believe we're writing this, but Beyoncé has literally just dropped a brand-new music video.
Beyoncé has dropped a full music video for the Cowboy Carter song "Bodyguard" in the early hours of Tuesday, November 5, otherwise known as Election Day in the United States. In the video, Bey poses for the camera and sings "Bodyguard" while paying homage to actress and model Pamela Anderson.
Over the course of this completely unexpected music video, Beyoncé references the 1990s hit TV show Baywatch (wearing a bathing suit stylized as "Beywatch") and the 1996 film Barb Wire, which are two of Anderson's most iconic projects.
Besides the clear nods to Anderson's work and aesthetic, Beyoncé brings out visual cues that read, "VOTE!" Even as she drops a heavily anticipated visual for a beloved track in an iconic album, Queen Bey clearly still wants to remind you that you need to get out and vote. Just a week ago, she attended a Texas rally and shared her official endorsement for Kamala Harris to become the next President of the United States.
Fans spent years waiting for — and begging — Beyoncé to release visuals for her last two albums: 2022's Renaissance and 2024's Cowboy Carter.
In the meantime, the pop star went on a world tour, released Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé in movie theaters, and then gagged us all over again with an explosive Super Bowl commercial where she announced Cowboy Carter. Alas, no actual music video was released for any of the songs from either of the two albums… until now, that is!
The internet is, as expected, losing its collective mind with all sorts of reactions, theories, jokes, and explainers of the references featured in "Bodyguard."
