It's 'Selfish' vs. 'Selfish' on the iTunes charts.

Britney Spears is throwing her support behind ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake after fans didn’t take too kindly to his new song.

The former boy bander recently released a single called “Selfish” from his upcoming album — which will be his first new album in six years. Britney fans, still fuming over some of the revelations she made in last year’s memoir, The Woman in Me, trolled him by managing to bump her song with the same title up to the top of the iTunes charts, despite the fact that it came out back in 2011.

Spears got wind of what was going on, and posted about Timberlake and his music on Instagram over the weekend.

“I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book,” she said. “If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry… I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song ‘Selfish.’”

The “Toxic” singer had previously revealed that she had an abortion when she and Timberlake were dating, as he did not feel ready to be a father.

Although it’s entirely possible Spears made this post without any outside influence, and because she genuinely doesn’t want his career suffering because she shared an important moment from her past, the pointedness of it has fans quirking an eyebrow and continuing to throw shade at the Trolls star.

But others are encouraging everyone to take her word at face value, suggesting that it seems like the least we can do at this point, now that Spears has her autonomy back.

Whatever the truth of the situation is, Spears is certainly coming out looking like the better person here, and fans love to see that, at least.
