The Paris 2024 Olympics are coming to a close soon, and yesterday, it was announced that music superstars H.E.R., Snoop Dogg, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Billie Eilish are set to perform at the closing ceremonies.
Fans of the "Birds of a Feather" singer were already excited, then fellow pop star Charli xcx reposted the news on X (formerly Twitter) with three words: "... you wanna guess ;)"
Fans of both artists then went into a frenzy, believing this was XCXs way of announcing she'd perform alongside Eilish at the closing ceremonies. It didn't seem like that much of a stretch, especially considering XCX released the remix of her song "Guess" featuring Eilish just last week.
But two minutes later, she cleared up the rumor that she started.
"lololololol sry just kidding," she write in a follow-up post.
The original X post earned nearly 176,000+ likes at the time of this writing, with XCX's clarification sitting at 75,000+. And it definitely riled up fans. "GIRL SO CONFUSING," one wrote. "Why you hype us up like that," asked another with an emoji of a smiling face with a tear. "troll charli."
Though our dreams of a debut "Guess" performance at the Olympics seem dashed for now, anything is possible during a Brat summer...
The closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics takes place Sunday, August 11. According to Deadline, the U.S. artists performing will reportedly appear in a mix of pre-taped and live performances.
