Dolly Parton is about to rock our worlds.
When legendary country singer Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, she pledged to make a rock album, and now, we know what songs and guest stars that album will have.
The aptly titled Rockstar LP is a sprawling epic filled with covers, original songs, and all the collaborations you could want. It will be led by the first single, “World on Fire,” featuring guitarist Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi.
The album will feature some truly legendary collaborations including bringing Beatles members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr together with Peter Frampton and Mick Fleetwood for a cover of “Let it Be,” Heart members Ann Wilson and Howard Leese reteaming on a new version of “Magic Man,” Emmylou Harris and Sheryl Crow teaming up with Dolly for a song called “You’re No Good,” Pat Benetar and Neil Girlado coming back together for a cover of “Heartbreaker,” and the posthumous talents of Ronnie Van Zant and Gary Rossington teaming up with Artimus Pyle and Dolly for a cover of “Free Bird.”
It also, of course, features tons of great queer talent. Songs with queer artists include a cover of her goddaughter’s hit “Wrecking Ball” with Cyrus herself, a cover of The Rolling Stone’s “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” with Brandi Carlile (and the famously not gay P!nk), a duet with Elton John on his hit “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me,” Melissa Etheridge duet “Tried to Rock and Roll Me,” a version of “Stairway to Heaven” with Lizzo and her flute, legendary Judas Priest singer Rob Halford joining for a song called “Bygones,” and 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry coming on board for a cover of her hit “What’s Up?”
Other guests on the album include Sting, Steve Perry, John Fogerty, Peter Frampton, Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, Simon Le Bon, Michael McDonald, Ronnie McDowell with The Jordanaires, and Chris Stapleton.
There are a couple of headscratchers on here, though. MAGA hero Kid Rock also appears on the album on a song called “Either Or,” and Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, currently embroiled in a legal battle with Julia Misley, who accused him of sexual assault and battery dating back to the ’70s when Tyler convinced her mother to give him legal guardianship over her at age 16 so that he could date her.
Rockstar will feature 30 songs and come out November 17. We can’t wait to listen!
