"I tried to nominate Sophie and was told that wasn’t allowed,” the singer-songwriter said.

Grimes is calling the Grammys “irrelevant,” and after hearing her reason why, you just might agree.

After this weekend’s Grammy Awards, artists are letting their opinions be known on some of the big snubs and surprises of the night. Of course, plenty of artists are confused by Harry Styles’ Album of The Year win over Beyoncé, but another artist is calling out another snub.

On Instagram, Charli XCX posted a picture of herself with the caption, “me not being nominated for a grammy for crash is like mia goth not being nominated for an oscar for pearl and only further proves that people don’t wanna see hot evil girls thrive.”

Other artists including MUNA, Tove Lo, and Aquaria all agreed. Musician and Elon Musks’ former girlfriend Grimes also agreed, and took things a step further, calling the Grammys “so irrelevant.”

“I stopped even clocking them in any capacity when I was on the producer of the year board and they quite literally would not allow me to nominate anyone who wasn’t on a pre fabricated list that was exceptionally boring,” Grimes revealed. “I was one of 3 women and the only person under 40 for sure. It’s literally not a relevant thing. I tried to nominate Sophie and was told that wasn’t allowed.”

Legendary producer and electronic musician SOPHIE was only nominated for one Grammy during her life, but was definitely worthy of many more. She sadly passed away at the age of 34 in 2021.

When Kim Petras accepted the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her song “Unholy” with Sam Smith, she specifically mentioned SOPHIE as one of the trans artists who paved the way for her to become the first trans woman to win an award in that category.

“I just wanted to thank all the incredible transgender legends before me who kicked these doors open for me so I could be here tonight,” she said.

“SOPHIE, especially. My friend who passed away two years ago, who told me this would happen and always believed in me. Thank you so much for your inspiration, SOPHIE. I adore you and your inspiration will forever be in my music.”
