Viola Davis is the GOAT — and Laverne Cox wants everyone to know it!
Cox was on the red carpet of the Grammy Awards tonight (where she co-hosts E! News’ coverage) when she learned that actress Viola Davis had made history, becoming just the third Black woman to win an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) after Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson.
As soon as she learned of the news, Cox started spreading the good news, making sure everyone on the carpet knew the news. Cox could be seen holding out her phone showing the news story to anyone who would look.
\u201c.@LaverneCox has arrived at the #GRAMMYs and is making everyone acknowledge that Viola Davis is an EGOT. She just like me....she just like me fr.\u201d— Entertainment Weekly (@Entertainment Weekly) 1675638764
Davis won the Grammy for reading the audiobook of her memoir Finding Me.
"Oh my God! I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything," Davis said in her acceptance speech. "And it has just been such a journey. I just EGOT!”
Davis has two Tonys, winning her first in 2001 and again in 2010. She won an Emmy in 2015 for How to Get Away With Murder. She won her Academy Award in 2017 for Best Lead Actress in Fences.
All of us watching the Grammys from home are stanning Davis, so it’s great to see Cox do it in person for us.
