Pop girlies rise up!
While the two biggest names in pop music are on tour right now, some of the other biggest names in pop are busy releasing new music! Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and Selena Gomez all released music today, making it one of the biggest new music days in pop all year!
Miley’s new song is a look back at her entire career, and especially the last decade. In “Used to be Young,” she sings over a melancholy piano: “I know I used to be crazy, I know I used to be fun. You say I used to be wild, I say I used to be young.”
In the video, Cyrus wears a Mickey Mouse shirt, referencing her childhood as a Disney star, and how much she’s changed since then. The video starts with her tearfully singing in front of an all-black background, but by the end, the curtains open up, letting some light in.
The song comes on the anniversary of the “Wrecking Ball” single release and the anniversary of her infamous VMA performance with Robin Thicke.
Ariana Grande is also celebrating a major milestone: the 10th anniversary of her debut studio album Yours Truly.
She’s celebrating by releasing a new deluxe version of the album, featuring a new “Spanglish version” of the song “The Way” featuring her ex Mac Miller, as well as six newly-recorded “Live from London” performances that include “Baby I,” “Tattooed Heart, “Right There” featuring Big Sean, and “The Way” featuring Mac Miller.
And Miley and Ariana aren’t the only top-tier pop girlies releasing music today!
Selena Gomez also released her first solo single since 2022’s “My Mind & Me,” from her documentary of the same name. In her new song “Single Soon,” she sings over a dancey beat from Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat about being ready to go out into the dating world.
“I’m picking out this dress/Trying on these shoes/Cause I’ll be single soon, I’ll be single soon,” she croons. What an amazing day for pop music!
In the video, we see Selena break up with her boyfriend by leaving a note. Then she gets all dressed up in her new dress and shoes and just when we think she's going on a new date, her group of friends show up for a girls' night that includes drinks, dancing, karaoke, and late-night pool time instead!
