Did Gigi Goode’s “I’m That B*tch” verse on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 inspire the Queen of Rap herself?

We are also entering our “leave a b*tch on read” era.

Nicki Minaj appeared as a guest judge at the grand premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 back in 2020. The queens in episode one were challenged to write verses, record them, come up with choreography, and then perform the original song “I’m That B*tch” on the main stage.

During deliberations, the Queen of Rap complimented Gigi Goode’s lyrics, “I’m just here to win and leave a bitch on read.” In fact, Minaj loved that line so much that she told Goode, “Literally, I would steal that line.”

On December 8, 2023, Minaj dropped her fantastic fifth studio album Pink Friday 2 – and Drag Race fans couldn’t help but notice that one of her new tracks, “FTCU,” features the lyrics, “I leave these bitches on read so now they know that they blew it.” As a result, the Instagram account for WOW Presents Plus shared a clip of Minaj’s critiques about Goode on Drag Race followed by a snippet of “FTCU” where those similar lines are delivered.

For context, “FTCU” is an acronym created by Minaj that means “f*ck this club up.” The credited songwriters in “FTCU” are Minaj herself, Juaquin Malphurs, Joshua Luellen, and Jacob Canady.

Minaj was clearly joking when she said that she’d “steal” Goode’s lyrics. She was noting that the Drag Race star’s lyrics were so good that even a bona fide rapper like herself might have come up with them. We all know Minaj is one of the best and most prolific songwriters of our generation, and she probably doesn’t even remember any of the lyrics she heard three years ago while filming Drag Race.

Nonetheless, this is a hilarious and iconic side-by-side comparison given how similar these lyrics happen to be. This also feels like a major flex for Goode, as she came up with those lyrics during an afternoon in the werk room, and a new version of those lyrics have now been included in Minaj’s latest album.

In the meantime, we’ll keep listening to Pink Friday 2 on repeat.

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 is now available on all music streaming platforms.
