Country stars Orville Peck and the iconic Willie Nelson have teamed up for their new song, "Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other."

According to a release, the song was first released in 1981 by Latin country artist Ned Sublette, then Nelson shared his version in 2006.

Peck's version stays true to Nelson's lyrics. "Small town don't like it when somebody falls between sexes," he sings. "No, a small town don't like it when a cowboy has feelings for men."

In his verse, Nelson sings, "A cowboy may brag about things that he's done with his women/but the ones who brag loudest are the ones who are most likely queer."

When Nelson first recorded the song in 2006, he reportedly "thought it was the funniest goddamn song I'd ever heard."

"I had it on the bus for 20 years, and people would come in and I'd play it," Nelson said at the time. "When Brokeback Mountain come out, it just seemed like a good time to kick it out of the closet."

It was also encouraged by his friend and tour manager of thirty years, David Anderson, coming out in 2004.

This is the first song from Peck's upcoming two-part project Stampede, which consists of duets with other musicians. The names of those featured artists have yet to be announced.
