Pedro Pascal dropped by Saturday Night Live over the weekend to join host and musical guest Bad Bunny in a skit reprising a character he brought to life during his own hosting gig on the sketch show earlier this year, "Protective Mom."
The new skit, "Protective Mom 2," featured Luis (Marcello Hernández) bringing a new girlfriend, Casey (Chloe Troast), back to his home, thinking his mom was out and he would only have to deal with introducing her to his aunt, who was, of course, Bad Bunny in a wig.
It immediately gets off to a questionable start, with Luis telling Casey, “Don’t worry about her. She’s just a little bit protective, but it’s nothing compared to my mom.”
Cue Pascal’s protective mama character—who immediately begins crying upon seeing her son back home.
Of course, things only get worse from there, as everything Casey does seems to prove she isn’t good enough for Luis in his mother and aunt’s eyes. That is, until she scolds him for not eating enough and wins her way into their hearts.
The bulk of the skit’s humor revolves around Pascal and Bad Bunny’s characters mostly speaking in Spanish, with key words in English to make Casey feel like she knows she’s being insulted, but with just the littlest bit of plausible deniability.
Part of this was undoubtedly because the Puerto Rican musician doesn’t speak English as his first language and has a large number of native Spanish speakers as fans who may have been tuning into the show. As a result, there were multiple skits done mostly in Spanish throughout the night, including Bad Bunny’s opening monologue, which saw Pascal show up to “translate,” although he didn’t do much of that.
Lady Gaga also showed up at one point to introduce Bad Bunny’s musical performance in Spanish, while Mick Jagger randomly popped by for two sketches.
