Beau DeMayo, who was fired just days before the X-Men ’97 premiere, has quietly returned to social media.

Is Beau DeMayo back on social media and ready to share his side of the story?

The out gay writer, previously known for working on projects such as The Witcher, Moon Knight, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and The Originals, was credited as the creator of the upcoming Disney+ reboot series X-Men ’97. But just days prior to the Hollywood premiere event of the show, DeMayo was reportedly fired without any concrete explanation from the studio.

While several outlets reported on his abrupt firing from X-Men ’97, DeMayo’s social media pages all disappeared — most noticeably his Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) profiles, where DeMayo used to be very active. But on Friday, Mar. 15, the writer seemingly came back to social media.

DeMayo’s verified Instagram page (@beau_demayo) is showing up as an active account once again. It immediately stands out that his Instagram page only has nine posts on the grid now, meaning that he’s deleted/archived a lot of posts of himself working on projects, as well as many personal posts.

The X-Men ’97 creator’s verified Threads account (@beau_demayo) is now also active again. However, it is possible that his Threads profile was re-activated automatically after he came back to Instagram, as these two Meta-owned social networks are directly linked.

One detail that makes us believe that his Threads account was automatically re-activated is that DeMayo’s bio still includes credits like “EP/Head Writer” of X-Men ’97” — something that his Instagram bio is no longer showing.

An unverified X account (@beau_demayo) that was created in Mar. 2024 is now active as well. But even though it contains the same username as DeMayo’s Instagram, it’s unclear if this is actually him or someone else impersonating him.

The X page contains a website link to beaudemayo.com that we do not advise readers to click on. Upon trying to open that website, a malware message pops up: “Malware page blocked for your protection.”

As of this writing, this unverified X account has a pinned post from Tuesday, Mar. 12 that reads:

“Speech is silver, silence is golden.”

It is conceivable that DeMayo returned to his same verified Instagram and just deleted/archived a series of old posts, and went on to create a new X account with his same username without going through the hassle of deleting every tweet he’s ever shared (a much bigger undertaking).

However, given that Elon Musk-owned X has removed badges for non-paying users of authority and public figures, it’s unclear if this X page is actually from DeMayo.

This story is still developing…

X-Men ’97 streams on Disney+ starting March 20.
