HBO’s The Last of Us gave us a heartwarming gay storyline in the third episode of its first season, and rumor has it that season two is gearing up to feature a heart-stopping lesbian relationship between title character Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey) and her companion, Dina.
In the video game the show is based on, Dina is introduced in The Last of Us Part II, and since fans have so far been pleased with the screenwriters sticking close to the source material storylines, we can expect the Ellie/Dina arc to be awesome.
Ramsey confirmed the storyline in a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, where they said, “I’m really excited, to be honest, for the Ellie/Dina story. I’ve watched a cut together, someone’s made a phenomenal — I don’t know how they do it — like an amazing edit of just the gameplay, like Ellie and Dina’s love story. So I’m excited to play that out.”
In the game, there’s a five-year gap between the events at the end of the first game and the beginning of the second, which Ramsey touched upon, saying they were looking forward to the complexity of the relationship between Ellie and Joel to grow.
“The violence that ensues is thrilling in a way, to get to maybe explore that in a really safe environment,” they said. “It will be cool. But I am nervous about it too. It’s gonna be really sad.”
The Last of Us airs Sundays on HBO.
