We're Ready to Stan Swarm, a New Horror Series Based on the Beyhive
Beyhive assemble, we’ve got a new show to watch!
Ever since the trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s new horror show Swarm was released a few days ago, we’ve been obsessed.
The series stars Dominique Fishback as Dre, the young stan obsessed with a fictional version of Beyoncé, and Chloe Bailey as her sister Marissa. Dre is a member of “The Swarm,” the devoted fanbase of popular singer Ni’jah, and she’s willing to go to the end of the earth to prove her devotion.
“She is not like everybody else, she knows what we are thinking and she gives it a name,” Dre says in the trailer about her favorite singer. “She’s a goddess.”
After that, there’s lots of drama, lots of blood, and lots of music.
“You’re a killer bee, part of the swarm,” a woman says to Dre in one scene, “‘Talk about Ni’jah, get stung!’”
It’s only when we see Dre’s car seats covered in blood and a body in her car trunk that we realize how bad that sting can be.
References to Beyoncé and her fanbase — the Beyhive — are heavy in the trailer. Not only are the fans called The Swarm, but actual bees appear and are referenced many times. Ni’jah’s aesthetic and themes are also very similar to Beyoncé’s. Finally, the trailer ends with a reference to Queen Bey’s famous sister, Solange.
“I don’t know, I kinda like her sister better,” a white woman tells Dre. “She seems more like, you know, spiritual.”
Swarm also stars Damson Idris as Dre’s boyfriend, Rickey Thompson, Paris Jackson, Rory Culkin, Byron Bowers, and Kiersey Clemons. The show comes from Janine Nabers and Donald Glover and arrives on Prime Video March 17.
