Our dearest readers, it seems that the diamonds of the season have escaped! As another spicy season of Bridgerton heads to Netflix today, the cast showed out at the New York City red-carpet premiere, and Out had the chance to chat with all the diamonds and dukes.
Lady Whistledown is not the only one with all the hot tea! Out is giving her a run for her money. We chatted with stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton about their favorite parts of creating these characters with showrunner Shonda Rhimes.
"There's been so much. I think Shonda has changed the landscape for television and she's done it for over 20 years," Coughlan told Out. "I mean, thinking back to Grey's [Anatomy], the diversity that she has brought to the screen and made it the standard. The fact that after Bridgerton, period dramas couldn't be so white anymore. That is a major, major thing. And also, I love how much she puts strong women on screen and complicated women, messy women. People get really mad at Penelope. 'She did this and this...' and I'm like, 'Yeah, she's flawed.' It would be super boring if all the women were just perfect and didn't do anything wrong. She also is complicated and she's brilliant and clever and deserves love and all of the things."
Although Coughlan and Newton are in the spotlight for the new season, both have played significant roles in previous seasons. Newton. who plays THE Colin Bridgerton, said, "I think it's the evolution of the show and how it develops every season. We draw all the themes that people love and appreciate from previous seasons and explore them even further. But also in the world of Bridgerton, I love that there's space and time where we don't see these characters. So there's room for growth and development. Every summer they go away and then they come back to society. So particularly for Colin, it gives him time to really change and grow up and become a man. But that happens for everyone and we get to see everyone's storylines play out. So yeah, I think just the whole team has just structured it so well. The scale will just get bigger and bigger. I'm really excited for that."
And Lady Coughlan has been vocal about just how much of a Bravo fan she is, we could not let her go before asking which Bravolebrity she would bring into the world of Bridgerton. Coughlan answered
"It's LVP isn't it?" Coughlan answered. "DARLING. And Jiggy, RIP. Jiggy would be one of the queen's dogs."
Lady Whistledown has officially spoken and Lisa Vanderpump, she is calling for you!
