Editor's note: this post contains minor spoilers for Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives series.
Let's hear it for the (dead) boys!
Based on the beloved DC Comics characters of the same name and an expansion of Netflix's already established The Sandman universe, the new supernatural mystery series Dead Boy Detectives is giving fans some delightful queer representation in the form of main character Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew), a ghost detective who helps solve otherwordly crimes with his best friend and fellow ghost Charles (Jayden Revri).
Though Edwin and George are crimefighting besties, there may be more to their dynamic than meets the eye (at least that's what Edwin hopes for). And throughout the show's exciting first season, we see Edwin come to terms with his blossoming sexuality, all with the support and (platonic?) love of Charles by his side.
Out got the chance to speak to the show's four lead stars — George Rexstrew (Edwin), Jayden Revri (Charles), Kassius Nelson (Crystal), and Yuyu Kitamura (Niko) — to talk about the show's queer representation, non-toxic depictions of male friendship and love, it's diverse friend group, and so much more.
When asked about who they think would make a great partner for Edwin, especially since he was really put through the wringer in terms of his his romantic prospects, they had a lot of their own thoughts to share!
"I think he deserves Charles," Rexstrew said, still shipping and giving hope to the Edwin + Charles dynamic.
"I think he deserves the Cat King," Revri answered. "But I think if the Cat King's going to live in the agency, they need a cat flap on the front door."
"I feel someone that can go toe-to-toe with just how quick he is," Kitamura said. "He's not going to date a boring person."
"Yeah, he needs someone intelligent, someone smart, someone that's got it together," Nelson answered, describing who she thinks would be Edwin's ideal match. "I think someone that's got patience as well."
"I want their love language to be physical touch," Nelson continued. "To give him hugs and open him up. He is very reserved I want someone to make him feel safe."
"A big heart." Kitamura added. "Words of affirmation. "And obviously someone gorgeous inside and out."
Dead Boy Detectives is now streaming on Netflix.
