Pixar Animation Studios — owned by Disney as its parent company — released a new show on Disney+ last month titled Win or Lose. The animated series originally featured a trans girl as one of its characters, but that particular storyline was reportedly cut from the project. Recent reports are now highlighting that Win or Lose has added another storyline tied to the Christian faith of one of the other characters on the show.

A report from WDW News Today — a digital outlet that specializes in news about all things Disney — highlights that Win or Lose features the "first character to be openly Christian from Disney since the 2007 film Bridge to Terabithia." The outlet then draws the parallel between the inclusion of this storyline on the show after The Hollywood Reporter's bombshell report claiming that the storyline of a trans character in the series had been edited out in December 2024.
The young, trans actress who was cast to voice that trans character, Chanel Stewart, reacted to the news in an interview with Deadline. "
"Oh my God, it was crazy,” the 17-year-old actress told Deadline. “I wore it as a badge. I wore it with pride. I wore it with honor because it meant so much to me. The thought of authentically portraying a transgender teenage girl made me really happy. I wanted to make this for transgender kids like me."
Win Or Lose follows the co-ed middle school softball team The Pickles — and each episode focuses on a different member of the team, or a coach, or a parent.
One episode in the series reportedly features Laurie, the daughter of the coach, praying before a game. CNN also highlights that the character has an angel cut-out in her bedroom.
"Dear Heavenly Father, please give me strength," Laurie says on Win or Lose in a scene where she's praying. "I have faith, but sometimes the doubt creeps in."
A representative for Disney said in a statement, "When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline."
Win or Lose is streaming on Disney+.
