Doctor Whois back with the fifteenth doctor!
Sex Education and Barbie star Ncuti Gatwa makes his debut as Doctor Who today on Disney+! After meeting the new Doctor in the 60th anniversary special for the series last year, we finally get to follow Gatwa on his own journey through time. And joining him is the sweet Millie Gibson as Ruby (who also made her debut in the anniversary special)!
Drag Race superstar Jinkx Monsoon makes her Doctor Who debut as well, so with that being said, Out asked which drag queen this duo would bring onto the next season!
Millie quickly responded saying, "Bianca Del Rio and Katya, I feel like that would be so much fun."
Following was Gatwa's shocking confession: "I've actually never watched an episode of Drag Race. Can you imagine?"
Shocked to our core! However, Gibson quickly jumped to Gatwa's defense saying, "I've made him watch Jinkx's best moments and that's all he needed to watch."
Although he may not have seen Drag Race, he is certainly a fan of the queens. Freaking out once we dropped Trixie Mattel's name… Gatwa said, "Trixie. I love Trixie! I love it. Those two are incredible. The reviews." Followed with a fan girl moment for Drag Race UK icons Baga Chipz & The Vivienne, of course. A fan of I Like To Watch is ALWAYS a friend of ours. The Doctor redeemed himself!
After seeing Gatwa's previous interviews where he mentioned a dance battle against a beast involving twerking and death drops, we asked the duo what song they would be lip-syncing for their life too.
"At the moment, it would be a 'Tyrant' from Cowboy Carter," Gatwa responded.
"'Worth It' by Raye," Gibson added.
Also mentioned in previous interviews, Gatwa said his second fulltime job was binging the long-running Doctor Who series and immersing himself in the world of the 14 doctors that came before him. We asked him if there were tropes or storylines from the previous Doctors that he was excited to explore or pay homage to.
"For me, I always loved when there was a slightly supernatural element to them," he said. "There was an episode in David's era where he faced the beast, and I just thought that episode was so cool. I couldn't figure out whether the monster was extraterrestrial or supernatural. And I feel like that's Russell's thing, and we got that in ours, it's like there's a real supernatural element to our era as well."
Lastly, the Doctor is known for the TARDIS, a police call box that can travel through time. So Out asked where these two time travelers would go if the TARDIS was real.
"1920s," Gibson said. "I just feel like I'd look good in a flapper dress and in a jazz club and just being all promiscuous."
Gatwa quickly responded with the most diva answer that we loved: "Ancient Egypt. Get some makeup tips from Cleopatra. We'd beat each other's faces and then we'd beat the monster together. All three of us. Imagine."
