Oh, honey! The library is about to re-open.
Actor and social media sensation Brian Jordan Alvarez (M3GAN, Jane the Virgin, Will & Grace) is leading a new FX comedy series titled English Teacher. On the show, Alvarez plays Evan Marquez, an English teacher who is "prone to taking stands and fighting for what he believes in, even when he probably shouldn't," while also having a "rich and complex personal life that he's trying to keep separate from his work life."
But that's not all! Alvarez and English Teacher producer Paul Simms told Vanity Fair in an interview that none other than drag superstar Trixie Mattel will star in the second episode of the series as a drag queen who's "teaching a group of football players how to amp up their cheer bona fides for a politicized powder-puff game."
And according to Simms, "Trixie Mattel was number one on the list" when it came to casting this role.
Alvarez also discussed the general theme of English Teacher during this interview:
"People from every different part of life are basically forced to come together for a common goal, which is just to educate these kids. What we enjoy is this idea that obviously the teachers are teaching the kids, but sometimes the kids are teaching the teachers how to live in this modern world that's moving so fast, [where] it feels like the rules change every day."
Actors starring in this new FX comedy alongside Alvarez include Stephanie Koenig as Gwen, Enrico Colantoni as Principal Grant Moretti, Sean Patton as Markie, and Carmen Christopher as Rick. The cast also features Savanna Gann, Sarah Kopkin, Emily Topper, Ralphael Lester, Mason Douglas, Matthew Smitley, Treyland Newton, Zikora Mbadugha, Michael Andrew Ajazi, Via Roz, Ben Bondurant, Brooke Butterworth, Sebastian Wiley, Carson Blyskal, and Cassie Lowe, to name a few.
We can't wait to watch Trixie's appearance on English Teacher!
English Teacher premieres September 2 on FX and Hulu.
