Stars, they're just like us!
Hacks star Hannah Einbinder went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert recently to talk about the upcoming fourth season of her popular comedy, and revealed that she has something in common with a lot of the show's fans: she also wants Ava and Deborah to kiss.
Einbinder stars in the Max comedy Hacks as Ava Daniels, a young, bisexual comedy writer who gets a job working with legendary stand-up Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), and together, the two revitalize both of their careers and form a wonderfully toxic pseudo-mother-daughter relationship straight out of our wildest dreams.
When Einbinder was asked by host Stephen Colbert what she thinks about fans who "want the two of you to get together as characters," Einbinder had plenty to say.
"I appreciate you giving me a platform to speak about this," Einbinder started. "Girls, you know that I want what you want. Where can I look into a camera?
"I have heard you, okay? And we want the same things. And I have relayed your message to the powers that be, okay?" she continued. "But, I don't think it's gonna happen, and that's the truth. And again, like, I want you to express yourself in the fan fiction, and that is beautiful. We're not gonna get it, and we need to focus up."
She then explained that when she'll post on Instagram about topics unrelated to the show, like "hey guys, we all need to support SB 222 to make polluters pay for climate disasters, and everybody sign the petition right now," fans still only have one response.
"I'll get like, sixteen replies that are like, 'Make them kiss!'" she says, "I'm like, 'girls, we gotta focus!' We gotta focus, cause there's no kissing on a dead planet, you know what I'm saying?"
Einbinder isn't the only cast member who ships Ava and Deborah, Mark Indelicato, who plays Deborah's assistant Damien on the show commented on the Instagram post of the clip saying "Ok I agree but also KISS."
Fans did get a small glimpse of the Ava and Deborah love story we've been wanting back in season one, when Ava had a dream that she and her boss/mother figure woke up in bed together and proceeded to make out. Unfortunately, she quickly woke up from that dream.
The fourth season of Hacks premieres April 10 on Max.
