Heartstopper Creator Teases Show's Ending Ahead of Season 2

Nick and Charlie from Heartstopper

“Yeah, I’ve known for ages exactly how Heartstopper is going to end.”

Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman already knows how Nick and Charlie are going to end up.

In a new interview with Attitude Magazine for its Attitude 101 issue, Oseman has revealed that she already has an ending in mind for her story.

“Yeah, I’ve known for ages exactly how Heartstopper is going to end,” Oseman told the magazine in a video interview. “It’s been really helpful to have that, like, endpoint for me to kind of build towards. I’m not going to spoil anything, but I mean, it’s a happy ending. I feel like everyone knows that.”

Created and written by Oseman, Netlfix’s Heartstopper is based on her own webcomic and graphic novel series of the same name. It follows two boys, Charlie and Nick, who meet each other at school and fall in love.

Heartstopper has been widely praised for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ teens, especially for focusing its story on things other than homophobia, violence, discrimination, and oppression.

Season 2 of the show finished filming in December of last year, and fans are eagerly anticipating when the release date will be. The new season will see the addition of new cast members, as well as a trip to Paris for Nick and Charlie.

Attitude also asked if Oseman plans on expanding the story of her characters into their adult lives, past where they go in the books.

“I think never say never, like I don't know what I’ll do after the main Heartstopper books are finished,” she answered. “I’m sure I’ll still continue to draw Nick and Charlie in some way.”
