Glee Star Jonathan Groff Is Joining Doctor Who
This will be the gayest season of Doctor Who ever!
Do you want to build a TARDIS?
Frozen, Glee, and Knock at the Cabin star Jonathan Groff is coming to Doctor Who as a new “mysterious guest” in the upcoming 14th season!
“I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role,” Groff said in a statement.
“This is an incredible coup, and a great honor, to get such a huge star striding on to our set,” showrunner Russell T. Davies said. “So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!”
This is going to be the queerest season of the show yet. The new Doctor is being played by Ncuti Gatwa, famous for playing gay student Eric Effiong in Sex Education, and another co-star has said that Gatwa’s Doctor will be “the first gay Doctor.”
That very costar is none other than Neil Patrick Harris, who will be playing “the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced,” in the upcoming season. Harris isn’t the only queer actor who has been cast.
Trans Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney is also joining the show as a character named Rose who is a trans girl. Finally, two time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner and Broadway star Jinkx Monsoon will be joining the cast as a music-based villain who is “the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet.”
Gatwa’s first episode as the Doctor will air over the Christmas season, with new episodes appearing on the BBC in the UK and Ireland, and Disney+ in other markets.
