Every season of RuPaul's Drag Race we are enthralled and entertained by the queens. Taught by them. Sometimes even nurtured. No matter whether it's a regular season or All Stars, if it's in the U.S. or in one of the countless international versions, the queens are the focal point through and through. Their humanity, their artistry — it's something to behold.
And yet, if we are being completely honest, every season some hunk of man also catches our eye doing a lot less. (This isn't to slight them, just a matter of pure screen time.)
This season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, one mustachioed backup dancer pulled a lot of attention. Notably, during the penultimate episode of All Stars 8, Ru hosted "The Fame Games Variety Extravaganza." All of the queens of the season were invited back to set in order to put on performances, with more than a few of them needing backup dancers. The dancer who racked up the most numbers was Locky Brownlie, who also returned for the finale in a performance with RuPaul.
There were quite a number of inquiries following the airing of the variety show for Brownlie's identity. With the given name Lockhart Brownlie, the performer is an Australian dancer, model, and choreographer living in Los Angeles. He's worked with major stars like Katy Perry, having gone on tour with her twice, as well as Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, and Jennifer Lopez. He's also performed with others like Todrick Hall and Erika Jayne.
He's also appeared on television on everything from Glee and AJ and the Queen to Minx and True Blood. In addition to all of this (and RuPaul's Drag Race,) he was a consulting producer on Legendary.
On top of all of that, Brownlie started a "Bro-lesque" crew. Male burlesque has been rising in popularity over the past few years.
"Bro-lesque is a celebration of dance as an art form, including burlesque," he told GED Magazine. "It should be appreciated a celebrated regardles of the type of costume or the degree of revealing outfits.
"My mission for Bro-lesque was to create something that celebrates the male body while showcasing and highlighting queer dancers," he continued. "It's a unique blend where art meets sexuality. I envision Bro-lesque as a fusion of Magic Mike and Broadway Bares, where sensuality and creativity come together. The next step for us is to create a theatre show."
