Sex reigns supreme in the first trailer for Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine’s seductive new show Mary & George!
The seven-part limited series is based on the scandalous true story of Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, who, in 17th century England, used her naive and beautiful son, George, to seduce, scheme, and scandalize their way through the Court of England and into the bed of King James I.
At the start of the trailer, Mary is complaining about her station in life. “I do not own my home, my children are unwed, we have nothing,” she says, desperate to change those things.
But she has a brilliant idea of how to change it. “King James is so cockstruck it's like a curse,” Mary tells her son as we watch the king have a blindfolded orgy. And her son is played by the gorgeous Nicholas Galitzine (returning to a royal role after Red, White & Royal BlueRed, White & Royal Blue), so they have the perfect way into King James’ heart and court.
When they first meet, George takes a veil off of his face, causing the King to gasp. “May I perform for you,” he asks in a gravelly, low voice.
From there, it’s court intrigue, hot sex, deceitful seduction, and lots and lots of side eyes.
And it seems like George isn’t the only queer one in the family! Mary has scenes where she’s seen making out with another woman, presumably a female sex worker, based on an insult another woman in the court aims at her.
While the show is dripping with sexuality, it’s also extremely dark, with Julianne Moore watching over her son and the entire court like a predator on the hunt.
“I was raised by a monster,” her son tells her.
“Only children believe in monsters,” she bitterly replies.
We are so back!
Mary & George debuts on Friday, April 5 on the STARZ app, and will debut on STARZ at 9pm ET/PT in the US and 10pm in Canada.
